Buying Of Giclee Prints For Sale

New ways of printing are available today that have brought about immense changes. The art world is one area that has been affected by the ability to make copies of original artworks that are hard to distinguish from the originals. Finding giclee prints for sale is not difficult today with many of them being sold from online stores. These copies retain the hues and tones of the originals and are sold for far less. This means that the works of important artists are far more widely available than ever before.

The printer resembles an ordinary inkjet printer but it is far larger and more expensive. The original artwork is scanned and the digital image can be scaled up or down. It can then be printed out on just about any type of substrate.

The inks used are pigment rather than dye based and this means that they are far more fade resistant. If water color paper is used for the original, this is usually used for the print too and excellent results are achieved as the ink saturates the paper, creating a copy that resembles the original so closely it is quite difficult to tell the difference. A canvas print is, however, more durable than paper and has the added advantage of not creasing when rolled for mailing.

An increasing number of artists are familiarizing themselves with digital art. This may consist of reproducing their original works but others are also experimenting with entirely digitally produced artworks which are then printed or images which are a combination of both. With the advent of so many digital types of art, it is extremely important for a buyer to know exactly what he or she is buying.

A digital copy should never be classified as an original. Artists often choose to print a limited number of copies and to label them accordingly. These copies can be sold more cheaply, making them available to a wider audience.

There are ways artists have found to make limited editions more valuable. They can do so by numbering them, signing them or even adding brush strokes to personalize them. The more personalized the copy, the more they can charge.

Any dishonesty with regard to the number of copies produced can seriously affect the reputation of a seller. A buyer does not want to spend money on a personalized, limited edition print and then find many more in circulation than stated. The confidence of the buyer in the artist will be destroyed as a result of this.

An art print may not quite capture the energy of the original. However, the process gives artists control over the final product and a number of them even own their own equipment so as to give them total control over the end product. They can check the colors, for example, to make sure that they match as closely as possible. This means that even though an artwork may be a copy, it still has quality and value.
