Eco-Sexuality And Pagan Poetry Ideas Thoughts

By Maria Hamilton

Poets can either be social butterflies, hermits or reclusive. In most cases, pagan poets run the gamut. Although, a number of poets love to read at open-mics, participate in poetry slams and attend writing groups. For poets whom do wish to work mostly from home, there are several poetry and writing websites which can now be found online, some of which promote Pagan Poetry Ideas Thoughts on a regular basis.

While some audiences may respond positively to pagan poetry, it often depends on the area in which one lives. For example, those whom live in areas often referred to as the Bible Belt may find audiences less responsive than poets whom live in more liberal areas. In addition, while some venues have truly open-mics, others restrict fowl language or direct hints at specific behaviors.

Some poets assume that audiences might or might not see a reading as narrow or ahistorical. In most cases, it is just best to read without making such assumptions. For, while some audience members may not understand the meaning behind the words of a poem, others can often find meaning the poet didn't even see when writing the piece.

In most cases, paganism brings with it a resistance to form and a distrust of aesthetics, aspects which are often inspirational to authors, poets, fiction and non-fiction writers regardless of religious beliefs. In addition, as most poems of this nature intentionally lack structure and clarity, it can often be hard for some individuals to decipher the meaning behind the words, especially when it comes to Haikus or shorter pieces.

There is also a sense of ambivalence and curiosity related to the history of paganism with people believing or not believing in different Gods, Goddesses, mythological creatures and events. Whereas, Ronald Hutton, one poet has tried to reveal cultural and literary norms through poetry and writing though has yet failed to do so.

Different bloggers have suggested that paganism is a fairly new belief system or practice, this is just not the case. While the concept of Neo-paganism may be newer than old school paganism, original schools of thought in this area began in ancient Greece. As such, while some poets may be writing from beliefs and structures associated with neo-paganism, others tend to write about the Gods, Goddesses and mythological creatures of a more ancient time.

Granted these bloggers do make sense and some good points about Wicca being out of the limelight as it has been in the past. While this is the case, the wisdom and knowledge associated with Wicca can often be inspirational to pagan poets and others. As such, the inclusion of poly-theology and neo-paganism in different writings has the ability to help these beliefs and practices once again take shape in the modern world.

Most poets whether Wiccan or identifying more as a Neo-pagan use metaphor in poems and other writings. For, these individuals believe that metaphor is a valuable lost art form. Whereas, erotica appears to also be more prevalent among individuals whom identify as pagan poets. In fact, many of these poets are actually participating in a new practice known as eco-sexuality though most have no idea as to the meaning of the term or practice.
