Short Story Ideas And Writing Tips That One Can Use

By Kathleen Stine

Writing short stories does not just take a lot of superb writing skills but it also takes a lot of discipline to follow a writing process wherein one can come up with a plot and the entire story body. Now before one would actually come up with a masterpiece, he has to first follow a certain process of conceptualizing and outline before he comes up with the final output. For those who do not know where to start, here are some short story ideas and writing tips that may be useful.

The hardest part of writing short stories would actually be to think of a plot for the whole thing. Some people think that once one would think of a plot, then everything would then be followed without any problem. What most people do not know is that there is a process to even thinking about the main idea or simply the plot.

Now in order to come up with a very good plot, one has to first go through a conceptualization process wherein he will be collecting ideas. To do this, he has to whip out a small notebook and start writing just about everything that he can think of that would help. This is called free writing as it will allow the writer to write down anything he feels.

After collecting ideas, one should then look into his notebook and start connecting his thoughts. Now his thoughts can actually come from anywhere whether it would actually be an actual event that happened, a story he already read before, or probably even an event that happened to someone else. So all the thoughts that are in the notebook should now be filtered and combined.

Now upon collecting some of the thoughts in one place, one would most likely already have an idea of the flow of the tale. Now once he already knows it, then he may now create a short outline sequencing the events. Now as for the format, one can just find a format on the internet and just fill in the blanks.

Now the outline would usually be composed of an introduction, the beginning, the climax, and the ending. Now there are also other small twists that may happen in the story aside from the main twist in the climax. Once one has filled this up in the outline, then he may fill the other parts as well.

The next thing to do would be to then complete the tale by filling up the entire outline. Once one has already done this, he has already created his first draft and is ready for editing. Now after he has edited his first draft, he can then add a little bit more style to the writing to make it more beautiful.

Now do not be afraid to keep on editing until it is perfect. Now one of the tips on how to be a writer that one should take note of would be to keep on editing and editing until it is perfect. From there, it is always best to try to get a third party writer to also edit it and try to give some feedback to the original writer.
