Magic Lives Forever In Childrens Book About Dragons

By Mattie MacDonald

Dragons have intrigued and fueled man's imagination from the beginning of time. Even today, these giant, winged fantasy creatures that breathe fire and have magical powers, feature prominently in children's books.

Children love dragon stories and all kids can relate to these mythical creatures that are so creatively portrayed in a childrens book about dragons. Huge, scary dragons appeal to the heroic instinct of boys who fantasize about slaying them. Girls dream about being rescued from these monsters by a handsome knight who wants to marry them.

What make these mystical creatures so special? What do they have that fascinates people from all over the world? And why are people, even today, so intrigued by stories and folklore about a species that only existed in man's imagination?

Aah, says who? Never tell a kid that dragons do NOT exist and are NOT real. Kids have mystical powers and sensory abilities that grownups have lost . . . And that's why only THEY can see and hear the great many dragons living among us.

Kids will tell you there are many kinds of dragons. Big ones and small ones. Kind ones and cruel ones. They all look different and each one has different magical powers and purposes. In the world of dragons, magic is real!

Today's kids can pick and choose from a wide variety of draconian characters portrayed in games, books and various popular articles. These fantasy characters have catchy names and magic powers that appeal to every child's imagination. Some dragons are loving, gentle heroes, while others are fierce, scary monsters. Because only children can apparently see them, they paint, draw and sketch them as they see them in their own, unique mind's eye. That's why there are more dragons today than ever before!

Artists can give free rein to their imagination when they illustrate books or capture dragon characters. Dragons can be any color, shape or size, have wings and horns or cuddly bodies, as long as they have long tails and supernatural abilities.

Kids will tell you that baby dragons come from huge eggs. When they are ready to be born, they crawl out of the egg and start walking or flying straight away. Good dragons always have to protect themselves and the universe from the cruel, fire-spitting monsters and in the world of dragons, the good always wins!

Grownups have always speculated about where dragons come from and whether they live in the sea or on land. In the Middle Ages people only knew about land-based dragons that looked like huge snakes, lizards or dinosaurs. The first sailors thought dragons only lived in the sea and therefore people were scared to cross the ocean.

Do these magical creatures stem from exaggerated myths about huge snakes, lizards and dinosaurs, or are they real and only visible to children? Who knows? One thing is for sure: mankind has always, throughout history, been fascinated by dragons and the thousands of children's books about dragons that are still being published today, prove that they are still alive and well . . . And probably will be with us forever!
