When it comes to editing and writing opportunities, there are a number of areas in which those interested in these jobs can work. One of which is that of a Freelance Content Writer or Editor. In most cases, these individuals work on a freelance basis as an Independent Contractor.

Some areas of expertise in which these individuals perform duties include Web Development, Medical Transcription, Legal, Enterprise, Energy, Education, Oil and Gas, Data Entry, Customer Support, Community Organization and Administrative Support. Others may work as technical editors and writers for a number of different consulting or technical firms.

Whether working on an individual or group project, it is important that the individual have an in-depth knowledge, or the talents required to research the subject matter. For, while there is often no degree required to fill these positions, those providing this service need to have the ability to research information along with a broader set of skills with which to do so.

With all the advancement in technology and other areas, these individuals are often in high demand. One area in particular in which this is the case is in advertising. For those lucky enough to find employment in this area, it is important that one have the ability to create documentation which makes a statement in a clear concise manner that attracts readers.

Individuals working in these positions are generally creative professionals with a basic understanding of search engines and computer technology. While this is the case, there is often no degree required when it comes to filling these positions. Regardless, individuals whom can use terminology relevant to various clients, consumers, customers and topics often make the best writers. Whether using keywords, or other relevant data, individuals whom can write articles and documents in a way that is interesting and informative are often successful.

Other skills necessary to be a success include having the knowledge of a number of different tones and writing styles. The proper use of grammar, English and spelling are essential as these are often the most important skills when it comes to writing and editing. Having the ability to work alone for long periods without interruption or supervision is also an important asset.

These individuals also need to have a deep understanding of client needs and the terminology related to each. As such, having the ability to research, organize and learn through various online materials is a necessity. While some employers will provide a SEO keyword or keywords, others may only provide a topic. Whatever the case, it is always the responsibility of the writer to write according to any provided guidelines or instructions.

While some hiring agencies or employers may allow users to use a number of different software packages, others may require the use of specialized software such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Suites, Enterprise or others. It is important to have an in-depth knowledge of any software required to do the work. For, while one can often learn on the job, there are generally tight deadlines for those working as copy or content oriented freelance writers.
